At 35, Fred Shinagel began his study of drawing, painting and collage at The New School in New York. Earlier he graduated from The Cooper Union in engineering and M.I.T. in finance and management. Visiting galleries and museums he found affinity and influence especially in the paintings of Diebenkorn, Marca Relli, Matisse, Newman and Braques. His works comprises of three principal themes: landscape, female figure, and abstract. His critical and singular aesthetic is the hard edge between and among planes of color.
